Changes Choices a Better Way

Jaynes Memorial Chapel proudly opened its doors in 1998, as the only family-owned funeral home in Duncanville, Texas.

After thirteen years of employment at a corporately owned funeral home in Duncanville, Rick Jaynes along with his wife, Laura, felt the need to open their own funeral chapel, and offer local families another choice of funeral care.

The property next door to Merrywood School was purchased from Mrs. Peggy Ogden, a dear friend. Their agreement was made on a handshake. Then with the support of their loving family, countless friends, and the entire community, groundbreaking and construction of Jaynes Memorial Chapel began in the summer of 1998.

With 8000 square feet of space, a chapel seating over 200, three staterooms and complete preparation facilities, Jaynes Memorial Chapel opened in November 1998 to an overwhelming display of support and confidence from the families of Duncanville, Cedar Hill and Southwest Dallas County.

The vision for building and opening a funeral home (and becoming self-employed) was fueled with careful consideration, much soul searching and a tremendous amount of prayer. At the groundbreaking ceremony, Dr. Clayton Oliphint, the Jaynes' pastor at the time, offered a prayer for the undertaking.

“Gracious God, we pray your blessings upon Jaynes Memorial Chapel, upon its owners, builders, and all who will work here. We are mindful that people will come to this place with their lives turned upside down by the death of a loved one. We pray that this be a place where people find comfort and healing, where the grieving process can begin, and the message of new life may be proclaimed. We pray that this be a place where the dead are treated with honor and respect and the living find caring service in the midst of their grief.

We consecrate this building and its chapel to your glory and honor, O God. May this be a place where people experience your sacred presence and your sustaining peace. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.”

This continues to be our prayer today.
